Atlanta Beat 1-1 Chicago Red Stars: Chicago comes up short again

The Atlanta Beat and Chicago Red Stars played to a 1-1 draw Wednesday at Toyota Park despite the Red Stars out-shooting Atlanta 18-6, including a 9-3 edge in shots on goal.

"It's frustrating," Chicago Head Coach Omid Namazi said.  "I want to say over the last four games we've been playing very well, we've got the majority of the possession, and we've gotten chances.  Unfortunately, we haven't turned those chances into goals.  That's been the story."

Johanna Rasmussen opened the scoring for Atlanta in the 30th minute when she chipped Chicago goalkeeper Jillian Loyden, who had just punched the ball to a waiting Rasmussen.

Chicago would equalize quickly, though.  Karen Carney's corner kick eventually found Cristiane, whose header found Ella Masar at the far post.  Masar tapped the ball in past Atlanta goalkeeper Hope Solo to make it 1-1 just before halftime.

Solo made nine saves in net to keep Atlanta in the match.

"We're disappointed for tonight, obviously, but we believe we can beat these teams now," Namazi said.  "And I feel -- and I've said it to the girls -- I feel we can outplay any team. It is just a matter of turning those chances into goals. But with practice, with belief, we're going to turn the corner."

Meanwhile, Atlanta Head Coach Gareth O'Sullivan was happy to take a point on the road without center back Kia McNeill (suspended) and Tina Ellertson (injured).

"Great point on the road against a good team especially considering their attacking prowess and the absence of Tina and Kia," O'Sullivan said.
