Washington Freedom 0-0 Sky Blue FC: Stalemate in New Jersey

The Washington Freedom earned its second scoreless draw in three days Wednesday in a 0-0 stalemate with Sky Blue FC at Yurcak Field.

Kristin Luckenbill made five saves in net for Sky Blue FC while facing 16 shots from the Freedom.  Washington goalkeeper Erin McLeod earned her second-straight shutout while making three saves on 19 shots from Sky Blue FC.

"Kristin was extra confident tonight in net, and her play reflected that," Sky Blue FC Head Coach Pauliina Miettinen said of Luckenbill. "As a whole, we truly played together as a team. We had a very solid performance from our defense, and our midfield and forwards did a great job of creating opportunities up top. Unfortunately, the ball just doesn't drop in your favor sometimes."

Italian National Team captain Patrizia Panico made her Sky Blue FC debut when she checked into the game for India Trotter at halftime.

The match was just the second of the year for Luckenbill, who gave up four goals to Philadelphia June 19.  This time around, things were much better for her and Sky Blue FC.

"It feels great to get the shutout, but it was a result of excellent play from the defense in front of me," Luckenbill said. "The effort of our entire defense was very strong tonight, and there was never a situation where an opposing player ran freely into the box. Every time they sent a ball across, we had bodies there to mark them."
