Philadelphia Independence 3-0 Chicago Red Stars: Rodriguez on fire

Amy Rodriguez and Caroline Seger.  What more do you need to say?  The Philadelphia Independence defeated the Chicago Red Stars 3-0 Wednesday at West Chester University behind a brace from Rodriguez and another goal from Seger.  With the two goals, Rodriguez now has four in her last two games and 11 goals on the season.

"What’s left to say about Amy?  She should have had four goals tonight," Philadelphia Head Coach Paul Riley said jokingly after the match.  "She’s been playing brilliantly and I think she was sensational again.  There are very few game-changers in WPS, and she’s proven herself to be one of those players."

Just like Saturday against Sky Blue FC, the Independence got on the board early Wednesday with a 12th minute goal by Rodriguez off a great through ball from Lori Lindsey.  Rodriguez then found net again in the 26th minute when she chipped Chicago goalkeeper Jillian Loyden after being played in on a long ball over the top from Nikki Krzysik.

Then, in the 56th minute, Rodriguez would play the role of distributor when she sent a cross into an unmarked Seger, who finished it to give Philadelphia a commanding 3-0 lead.

Shockingly, the Red Stars did not put a shot on goal until the 84th minute.

"I told my team at the end of the game, sometimes you just have to take your hat off and tip it to the better team," Red Stars Head Coach Omid Namazi said.  "We lost to the better team tonight, they deserved it."

Philadelphia defender Holmfridur Magnusdottir was sent off in second half stoppage time for a reckless challenge.  Val Henderson earned a shutout in her third-straight game in net.
