| Boquete named best of week 21 action |
 |
Chicago Red Stars and Spanish national team forward Veronica Boquete was named WPS Player of the Week for Week 21 after registering a goal and two assists last week. Boquete scored the game-winning goal Wednesday in a 2-0 Red Stars win over the Philadelphia Independence and assisted on both Casey Nogueira and Megan Rapinoe's goals in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Washington Freedom. "She is both clever on the dribble and also clever with her final pass -- something that we were in desperate need of," Chicago Head Coach Omid Namazi said. "Her unselfish running off the ball also creates opportunities for her and others on the team." Last week's matches were just the second and third for Boquete in WPS after joining Chicago from the USL W-League Champion Buffalo Flash. However, she has clearly made an immediate impact. "She has come in and fit in right away with the rest of the group," Namazi said. "She has worked hard in both games, and it's shown both in the team results, as well as her own statistical output." |
